Default Re: Double or Nothing SNG's at PokerStars

I played a few, I don't like them but then again, I went through my Sng stage years ago and really don't play many anymore. I pretty much stick to ring and MTT's so the Sng feel is already a little different and when the entire tourney feels like one big bubble, it just isn't that enjoyable for me. I played about 4 and broke even minus rake so @ the $20 level I am down like $6. I am not a fan.

I think that was my big thing about them too was the rake. It's just like the heads up games, If you're not winning them 75% of the time then you're not really profiting because of the rake. That and I'd much rather win .90 (yes I'm playing the tiny ones) on a ring game.

I think the goal with the DoNs is volume. What's great is that you can easily 20 table or more since there is little postflop play and in the later levels most decisions are push or fold. Plus when you're playing that many tables at once you often don't see the bad beats when they happen, which helps with tilt control.

I'm not going to debate their profitability (I personally don't think they are massively +EV). But, I will say, if you can grind these out, I have massive respect for you. These are probably the most boring games forms of poker I have ever played. Focus and discipline were things I sometimes struggled with in normal SnG's, but having multi-tabled these, I have a new found appreciation for SnGs and the poker thats involved in them.

Basically get your push/calling reflex's fine tuned, and you'll be a winner ... But I personally wouldn't expect a respectable $/Hr to be attainable - nor would I expect a DoN grinder to be sane after a couple of weeks ...

I personally love the double or nothings, especially for grinding the couple bucks I got from a friend on there. I've had streaks of four or five wins, a couple losses, but to me they seem pretty +EV.. Rake isn't that great, though.

I'm not a huge fan of double or nothings but I do love a good SNG.

I have recently tried and I went 5 for 5 in cashing. I have tried $1,$5 and $10. The are fairly simple strategy. Fold baby fold. I play about 5-8 hands depending on the hands. Take advantange of stealing the blinds when the blinds and antes go up. I forgot to mention I play the turbo type.
