| I just thought I would drop by and give a little update on why I havn't been posting much. My baby boy was born on April 8th at 453 AM! he weighed in at 8 lbs 1 oz and was 20 inches long! Now unfortunately there were some very unexpected problems with his heart. About 30 minutes after he was born they discoverd an irregular heart beat and he was transported to the childrens hospital here in Denver by ambulance. He had open heart surgery and the doctors patched him up great. They say they have fixed the problem and he should live a long, normal, happy life! So that is why I havn't been around the last few days! Good news with some scary scary moments! It has been completly surreal around here as everything just happened so fast but we are very fortunate to have him here at the Childrens Hospital here in Denver Colorado, a brand new, truly world class facility. He is not just in good hands, he is in the best! So just an update! Here are a few pics! Please welcome Evan Reid Lopez-Mehring to the world! About 2 minutes after he was born. ![]() Before surgery ![]() After surgery ![]() He is starting to look a lot better right now! They said it could be days before they started taking the tubes out but they have already taken most of them out and are working on getting him to bottle feed! This is GREAT news as he is strong and recovering like a champ! Just keeping you guys up on why I havn't been around! |

| Congrats on the bundle of joy. I'm sorry to hear about his little heart but I'm glad everything is going to be ok. I'm sure you've had a hectic few days so far so don't worry about not being able to post here. Enjoy every moment you can as you will soon see him grow up fast. Take Care! |

![]() | Congratulations on the good looking little guy. Sorry to hear about the scary moments. I have a couple small guys myself (2.5 and 1), and we had a small scare with our oldest boy but nothing to the degree that you were put through. It's truly amazing how talented some of the doctors are nowadays. I'm glad everything is looking up. You must have been a stress case for a few days. Once again, Congrats. Jason

| Thanks guys! I appreciate it! And I think he is going to be fine! He should be in the hospital for about a week longer so at this point I just want to get him home to his nursery that has been waiting for him. As a guy on another forum I am on said about this pic: "You are worried about what is going to happen? Hell man, he's already fist-pumping!" ![]() |

| Congratulations, PoWdA...I've worked Pediatric Trauma for 6 years...your son is going to be just fine and he will be strong and healthy...enjoy your early times with him...they go by in a flash and can't be regained. PS: don't be overprotective because he had open heart surgery...it will cause psyche problems for him down the line...just let him be a kid...good luck to you and your spouse!
