I don't know if this is the place you are talking aobut but it was damn good.

Also I am holding you to the sushi thing when I am in town!
Probably wasn't the same restaurant. Joel Robuchon is really ridiculously priced. I spent $1100 when I took my wife there. Was by far the most expensive meal ever, but was totally worth it. I wish I had the dough to eat there all the time.

What the hell is a canary??

Your probably ate at the Brown Derby, It's a really cool steakhouse at the MGM.

Holy crap. What was the wine/food/tip breakdown of that meal? To date I haven't broken the $200 barrier on a single meal. maybe when I finish residency.

I sat at a 1/2NL table with a few yellow 1K chips and some kid was like "wow a canary." I was like "what?" and he said "they call yellow chips canary's." I guess not.

Changes all the time, depending on who you ask, there are a ton of great steakhouses actually. According to the Las Vegas Review Journal the Best Steakhouse in Las Vegas. Some of my favorites are:
  • Gallaghers at the New York, New York Casino. They feature dry aged beef hanging in the Window.
  • Prime Steakhouse at the Bellagio is a Jean-Georges Vongerichten Restaurant. This chef is featured on the Food Network a lot.
  • The Capital Grille - I haven't eaten there yet, but I've heard great things about this restaurant.
  • Ruth's Chris - Consistently good steak, and they are open until 3am and don't care what you are wearing. I've rolled into here at 2am in the morning after playing poker in my shorts and a T-shirt to get a big fat juicy steak and bottle of wine. This is real close to the Rio (where the WSOP is being held)

16 course tasting menu = $365 x2
Captain Morgan Coke = about $15
Glass of Champagne = about $30, in retrospect this was a really bad deal, should have taken more time to look at the wine list, but didn't want to spoil the mojo and look cheap
2 Bottles of the better/cheaper stuff champagne = $65 x 2

The bill was like 900 something, service was truly impeccable so rounded up the check to an even $1100. which was something like an 18% tip.

I really don't regret it at all, It is a lot of money but like I previously mentioned, the food was really incredible. My wife said her shit smelled like roses in the morning .

Makes sense now that I think about it, the 1k chips at most casinos (including the Bellagio) are yellow, I just never heard the "Canary" terminology, at the Bellagio they call the 5k chips "Flags" and the 25K chips "Pancakes"

I knew about the "Flags" for 5K chips and "Pancakes" for the $25K. Isn't the big game $4000/8000 Limit? When do you see a pancake ever?

They have them on the table as backup or for show. I've seen guys with stacks of them. One normal stack is 500k. I happened to be in the room after they beat Andy Beal out of several million. When I walked by the table there were 6 racks of "Pancakes" which was 15 million. That was quite impressive to see actually.

They also use them when they play No-Limit, and Pot Limit Omaha.

nice...

Cool to be there after they took Andy Beal, that was a good book :)

On a side note I saw a 25K Bellagio chip at the Rio. Basically Hellmuth was a table over and for some reason unknown to me, got somebody to take the 25K chip to the bellagio and cash it in and bring him back the cash. I don't get it either but he sat at the tourney table for hours with piles of cash right there.

There is one thing I'd love to try, but I know it wouldn't be possible...

Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman drove a couple of motorcycles from London to New York the "Long Way Round". It was a TV series and DVD of the same name. They started in London and went through Europe>Ukraine>Russia>Kazakhstan>Mongolia>Siberia> U.S.A and Canada.

They also did the "Long Way Down" starting from the top of Scotland going all the way down to the bottom tip of Africa.

Perhaps I can do the "Long Way Round and Round" and go around the USA and Canada hitting every state and Province.
