It worked out good for you, but the blinds are only 400-800. Why not make it 2400 or so. I actually don't mind getting some action with this hand, you might get someone to call with AQ or AJ. And if someone wakes up with a pair (like they did) it's a coin flip situation at best and I hate coin flips for all my chips.

It worked out in your favor cause you spiked the ace on the flop and had the player with 10-10 just called a smaller raise he could have easily of folded so you did win the max, but had the flop come different you could have lost the max also

If you had made it 2400 or so, the guy with ten-ten may have pushed preflop anyhow netting the same result, but if the flop comes different, you can get away from you hand and still have some chips to play with.

I don't think your situation was so desperate that it was "shove time", if you had like 6k or 7k it would probably be the shove line in my opinion.

Maybe we can get Mark to chime in on this hand.

Granted, I'm the student here but for what it's worth, I have to agree with Karma...blinds are still relatively small to your stack (M of 10 or so), time is still on your side...I personally dislike pushing AK because, as good as it is, it is still a hand you have to draw to. I try to stick to a raise/call or raise/reraise when I have AK in the pocket.

I'm pushing too.

Either you win what's already in the pot, or you're likely to be the favourite to more than double up.

I just don't like the idea of having one of the smaller stacks and playing AK conservatively. I'd rather make a stand while I can still get back in the action if I win. I'd be looking at this near coin flip (with the added incentive of having your opponent fold and taking the pot down without a fight) as a good option.

2675 in the pot pre-flop and nobody showing any strength.... pushing here all day long with a 13k stack expect to take it down 70% to 80% of the time and be 55% to 60% favorite against the range that calls is (weighted towards Ace-X) here.

BTW, what was that guy doing limping 10's? With all of those chips too - horrible!

Cheers, Mark

Without the limper I open to 2400, with the limper ahead I push.

I hate reading raw hand histories I always seem to misread them. For some reason when I read your post I missed the guy limping for 800. I thought you opened with an all in shove and he called out of the blind or from behind.

I'd say the shove becomes more correct with that limp, but I'd be interested in getting the "Why it is correct to shove" opinions, because It seems like you could still make it like 3200 or so and have a high likelihood of picking up the pot?

For those advocating the shove, if the guy didn't limp with 10-10, do you still open shove or make a standard raise of 3x or 4x??

I'm a cash game expert, so I'm all ears to these tournament situations.
