New Post Pot Limit Omaha by Jeff Hwang

Click the image to open in full size.Ok, This is actually the latest book I have bought on Omaha and I wish it had been the first. After Stewart Reuben's "How Good is your Pot Limit Omaha?", this book has significantly transformed and improved my PLO game, which I play online at the $1/$2 & $2/$4 level and live at the $5/$5/$10 level (when I get to a casino, being the working guy I am )

The great strength of this book is the organization and CLARITY! You are constantly being told something that is really important when playing, and the range of hands is large and broken down by position, which is a real help in understanding the dynamics of position in PLO, which is much more important in PLO than in NLH.

Practical examples: They are good and organized to teach you about the hand and position, where the same hand is moved in position with slightly different treatments. Stack sizes are brought into the examples to make you think about how being short stacked affects your decision process for a hand.

What you do not get is the 'author ego massage' you get in many poker books in general and the Slotboom book on Omaha in particular. The book by Sam Farha is the worse piece of vanity press to come out in the Omaha poker book universe, but I am writing that review next ... ... it will not be pretty ...

Jeff Hwang's book is, IMHO, number one out of the four or five essential books on Pot Limit Omaha Hi out there, for someone serious in learning & mastering Pot Limit Omaha Hi.

Nice. I was looking at getting this book anyway so this helps. I actually have been putting off reading Sklansky on Poker so I am planning on reading that next but this one looks like it would make a good book to read after that.

Thanks for the detailed review. I'll check this book out as I'm planning a fall trip to Europe and PLO is huge there.

I can google it, but who the hell is "Jeff Hwang", I honestly have never heard of him.

New Post Re: Pot Limit Omaha by Jeff Hwang

Jeff Hwang is a graduate of Pine Crest School (1999) investment writer/analyst covering the gaming industry for The Motley Fool; semi-professional poker player, columnist for Card Player magazine, and author of Pot-Limit Omaha Poker: The Big Play Strategy (ISBN 0818407263).

There ... now you know. There are a number of people that have, over the years, absolutely crushed online Pot Limit Omaha Hi that make a lot of money then disappear. Given that he has written such a seminal book on the subject, I think it is a good bet that he is one of those quiet guys.

I kid you not, his book is good, probably because his background has allowed him to organize the information and isolate the important elements to make decisions, for sure a good financial analyst's real skill: to cut throught the BS and underline the key fact.

Omaha Hi, with the requirement of investing in draws if the odds are right, is a perfect fit for anyone with a financial background.

Having a healthy bankroll does not hurt when learning to play too .

I bought this book. I have read the first 10 pages or so and can already tell that this book is great. So far well written and he seems to have a good idea of how to teach his concepts. I hope to finish this book soon.

I have had little time to read this book but am about half way through.

All I have to say is that this is easily one of the best poker books I have ever had in my hands. I am not even halfway done yet (almost) and I can already say that this book is one of the greats. I am going to put it up there with Harringtons series and say that if you havn't read this book, and you play PLO, you are throwing money away.

If I ever get free time to write another review, this one is getting the best review I have ever given.

Incredible work Hwang!
