| I've always seen and heard about people reading good poker strategy books but don't know where to start in this category. Can any of you recommend the title on something that you've read and enjoyed or found useful? |

![]() | It depends somewhat on your current abilities, if you are a beginner, I would recommend: "Winning Low Limit Hold'em" by Lee Jones or Ed Millers "Small Stakes Hold'em" For advanced poker players and pros, I highly recommend Barry Tanenbaums new book "Advanced Limit Hold'em Strategy" For some other great reads check out the Best Poker Books thread. | The other thread is a great resource as well but thanks for helping me out. The Jones and Miller books would probably be about right for me as I am still just starting out and need to get my feet wet before tackling more in-depth strategy books. Thanks for the recommendation and I'll let you know what I think after finding them. |

| There are different books for different types of games, tournaments or cash games. So depending on what you're playing or want to play the books are numerous to choose from. |

| Not sure what what your specific need are. But it will be useful to read Doyle Brunson's Super System: A Course in Power Poker Doyle Brunson's well and comprehensive written poker book, first published 1979 is a real classic! |

While I do think everyone should eventually read Super System 1 the "poker players bible" I also think that anyone that plays poker today would benefit 10 fold more by reading Super System 2. A great collaboration from todays and yesterdays top pros in all of todays most popular games. With names like Lyle Berman, Todd Brunson, Jennifer Harman, Daniel Negreaneu and more all having chapters you know the book has gotta be good! A great book and Daniel's section on Triple Draw is easily the most read and refrenced piece of poker literature I have ever read. One thing I will say about both Super Systems is that I do not think Doyles NL Hold em sections are the best out there. It could make you dizzy how many times Doyle says "I push all in here" or "this is a spot I put all my money in". Pushing with gutshots, re-raising with flush draws, these are moves of yesteryear when players were scared and don't really apply to todays new poker world of fearless internet players. Why his advice may have been solid 40 years ago, after years of his book being the best, we have all been taught to exploit these strategies and I find his NL advice to now be outdated. The bottom line. If you play mixed games; Omaha Hi/low, Stud 8 or better, Triple Draw, Limit Hold em, or Omaha Hi, then buy Super System 2. Enjoy Steve Zolotows article titled "The Fox and the Hedgehog" (probobly my favorite article ever) and Miike Caros tips on poker tells. This book is filled with an incredible wealth of knowledge all written by the absolute best in the world, just don't buy it for the Hold em section (sorry Doyle!). Overall this is one of the best poker books I have ever read and I suggest it to anyone who plays poker, and by poker I mean games other than Hold em.
