Great. I'm glad to see that you guys are offering a lot of lists of 'canonical' books and tips on the subject of poker. It makes being new a lot easier when there are people who are willing to offer up the best advice that they've read so that others can benefit as well. Thanks.

I have to ask but is there a "Poker For Dummies" book out? I just ask because I bought one of these on the internet and they are really good a breaking things down in easy to understand ways. I think one on poker would be great for a newbie.

, as kind of a joke, but it is actually very good. One of the co-authors is Lou Krieger who is a columnist for Card Player Magazine and has also written a couple other books.Jason

Thanks, I though there might be a "Poker for Dummies" but had not seen one as of yet. I love these books just because they break things down into laymans terms. This is a great list of books by the way. Thanks

I like "Ace on the River" by Barry Greenstein. It is a wonderful book with great illustrations. He also gives insight into the final tables of tournaments hes played in.

| | I'm a big fan of the "Real Poker" series by Roy Cooke and John Bond. They are a great addition to any poker players library and offer real advice ,for real poker players (pun intended ). One of Roy's trademark answers is: "It depends", which sounds vague to a lot of poker players, but it really is the truth when talking about poker, most of the time the proper decision or course of action in a poker hand "depends" on all the pieces of the puzzle and what information you have available to you to arrive at a logical decision.Hey Tycoon Thanks for the recommendation of "Ace on the River", by Barry GreenStein. What type of player would you say that book is written for?

I would say it would appeal to all players, especially railbirds who would totally enjoy the pictures of the live high stakes poker rooms at the Bellagio. It's not really a "How to" book on poker. It shows the poker world from the eyes of Barry, who has great insight on the subject.

I would have to say Doyle Brunson's Super System is the poker book that most poker pros give high reviews. The Super System II has a bunch of poker pros who contributed to different sections including Daniel Negreanu, Lyle Berman, Bobby Baldwin, Johnny Chan, Mike Caro, Jennifer Harman, Todd Brunson, and Crandell Addington.
