Poker for Dummies. Just my type of book. Hopefully, it will help me to put on a better poker face when I play with people face to face. Thanks for the tip.

I actually bought a pocket sized poker for dummies and igt is always a blast to bust it out at the table. The best is to get the guy who ears that glasses and is super intense in a bad spot and pull out the book and try act like you need it to make a decision. Talk about priceless. Also I like Lou Kreiger. He has some good stuff out there.

Some months ago, I read Positively Fifth Street by James McManus. ![]() Really, I haven't read such a - hm, such a what? It is so good, I'm sure I had not read before nor will I ever read something that can be compared with this WSOP report. (The only thing I don't like about it is the start, when the death of Ted Binion is described. But I can't tell you how glad I am that I didn't give up on this book.) James McManus was sent to Las Vegas in 2000 to cover the WSOP and the proceedings against the supposed murderers of Ted Binion. He played the tournament and - ok, read it, I promise you will adore it! I'm sure it will fit very well into the category "General Poker Reading and Entertainment". Cheers, Michaela

Yeah, that's a great book. Lots of general poker lore and philosophy woven into the story of his deep WSOP run. It's amazing how little money he made for placing where he did by today's standards. Also included is the very sad story of the Binion family.

For beginners it is all about giving useful information while keeping the person's interest in poker high, so or that reason I usually steer people to Phil Gordon's Little Green Book for the poker side of learning to play, and since we are in the middle of WSOP season, I recommend The Real Deal also by Phil Gordon, filled with very readable annecdotes including the last chapter where you are in the Main Event of the WSOP and there are problems posed as you make the final table. A lot of fun. There is no 'perfect' set of books out there for a learning poker player, because everyone has a unique set of playing problems linked to their personality to first recognize and then overcome, so I really suggest that an interested player build up a small library of books that appeal to you and to actually read the books ... at least once! Better poker play seems to come to those players that stock their poker toolboxes with a lot of specific skills picked up over time. My favourite poker book? Hard to say really but so far Harrington's books blow the rest out of the water, but be warned: these books are for intermediate players at the very least, since the concepts require a fair amount of poker knowledge. The three volume set is one that I am pretty sure you have to plan to read through a number of times ... it is that dense with poker information. Happy reading but keep in mind that reading a good poker book will NOT improve your play ... using the information you read actively into your game is necessary! ![]()
