| How the "Harrington on Hold Em" series ISN'T listed here makes me *sigh* The above selections though are definitely very solid IMO. |

![]() | Thanks for the reminder on Dan Harrington's Books. I'll add them to the list. Admittedly, I haven't been doing alot of reading the last couple of years, but I have heard good things about his books. How would you classify his books: beginners, intermedate, or advanced and pro's? Jason

| Karma....I know your not gonna like this but my favorite poker book for beginners is Phil Hellmuth's "Play Like the Pros" It has a section in the book about animal types that I still use when I am teaching new players. It defines the personality types that you will encounter at the table and how to exploit each of their weaknesses.

![]() | Got to agree with Ace-high here - the Harrington books should be on any must-read list. I'd add the following: - No Limit Holdem: Theory And Practice. by Sklansky and Miller (great for cash-game players but a good general read too) - Professional Pot-Limit Omaha. by Rolf Slotboom (best PLO book out there IMO and something new to discover each time you read!) - Colin Moshmans SNG Book... forget the exact title but makes a good intro to SNGs even if some of the ICM / Mathematical parts are a little unclear for beginners. For entertainment rather than education 'The Making Of A Poker Player' by Matt Mattros is a good read....extremely well written and flows nicely from his childhood home games right through to the WPT. | "The Making of a Poker Player" sounds like a biography. I have yet to read a bio on a poker player. At least not and in depth one. I will have to check that one out. |

| If you ever want to mature as a poker player read Doyle Brunson's "Book of Poker Wisdom" I am currently at work I believe that is the name of it

| The Poker for Dummies book is the first book I bought. I still use the back appendix at times. It is very easy to understand and the concepts it presents are very appropriate for a new player. For the absolute newbie to tournament play, one might pick up the book "Kill Phil" by Lee Nelson and Blair Rodman. It is a long ball strategy that will give someone with minimal experience a fighting chance to place in the money in tournament play. Its focus is on pre-flop play and minimizes post-flop confontation, which is where most newbies get jacked. Some may disagree with me, so feel free to say so. I still use the advanced Kill Phil strategy and continue to have a +ROI ( at micro stakes, since that is all I really play).
