Default Who Taught You How to Play Poker?

I was just curious to know who taught you to play poker? My grandfather was the one who taught me the basics. It is one of the things that I treasure that we did together.

I just basically started playing with friends when I was young and we learned the basics of poker that way. Eventually I started playing different types of poker and found my way to Texas Hold'em and have loved the game ever since.

About a year ago, I learned from my friends, we would play a few live games, and then we would play Aol Hold em tournaments online. Before 2007, I had absolute no idea how to play any poker games. Now, I know how to play all of the poker variants offered on Full tilt.

Well, I'll tell you - we went to Beijing as a class trip, and of course all the guys would play poker on the play and in their hotel rooms. On the way back, they were playing again and since the guy next to me was playing poker, I decided to join in. I won 5 bucks and lost 10, but it was fun.

I learned from playing a 3 card game in High School. The game consisted of progressive pots and involved too much luck. I learned holdem from the WSOP on TV. I'm guilty of that lol.

I think poker on TV has helped bring a lot of new people to poker. THe WSOP win by Chris Moneymaker was probably the best thing to happen to poker because he won after getting there on a win in a $40 satelite.

I just learned poker through playing with friends at school or wherever. I think I have learned more in the last few years though than I have in the previous time in my life.

Like many others I just learned poker by playing with friends when I was in my teen years. It was just a fun way to compete against your buddies and have some fun. It you got lucky you went home with a few extra bucks in your pocket.

Now, when we have home games, it's a little bit more that the winner gets to go home with.

I'm mostly self taught at Poker through reading poker books and many hours of playing. I would give my Dad credit for teaching me cards at an early age.

We started playing Hearts and Canasta when I was about 5 or 6 years old, by the time I was 7 or 8 he quit letting me win and actually had to try his hardest to beat me.

Games like Hearts, Spades, Gin Rummy are all great card games which have many crossover skills to poker.

I was an Army Brat growing up moving around a lot. My brother and i grew up on board games a lot to keep each other entertained. This made us very competitive. We were always good at video games and sport. I broke my leg very badly after I had a full ride to college. This caused me to never play soccer again.
My friend asked me to come to his friends home game back in 2001. I lost about 50 bucks in a nickel-dime game. I was horrible. I ended up going out and buyin 3 books because i enjoyed it and since I was stuck since i was in full leg cast.
I did a search engine at the time and found Pokerroom.com and played there for a while before internet poker became popular and loved it. (You mean I can play video games and win money for it)
I still have my competitivness from sports and my brother but now a new outlet to unleash it on.
