Predictions for the 2008 WSOP main event?
So we are fast approaching the 2008 WSOP and I know predicting a winner in the main event is almost like predicting the weather...You never know what is going to happen. But I'll ask anyways. Who do you think will win the 2008 WSOP main event this year? Do you have a favorite poker pro who you'd like to see win it or do you think we'll see a totally unknown poker player win the championship? I'd like to predict myself  But it'll probably be another unknown poker player this year. |

I'll will take the unkown players and give 3 to 1 for any and all takers  Fields of 6000+ are to tough to fade, even for the best of the best. You have to win to many coin flip situations. Basically every time you have AK or AQ and are up against a pair, you have to win, and every time you have the medium pair and your oponent has AK or AQ you have to win also. The short term luck factor is really tough to overcome, but not impossible. You have to play great, and also get lucky alot to win the main event. Amongst the top pros, most now consider the 50k H.O.R.S.E. event "The Event" to win. If you win that event, you will get the respect of nearly all players. Jason

It's amazing how popular Chris Moneymakers win made the main event. There were 839 entries the year Moneymaker won and since then - 2576 in 2004, 5619 in 2005, 8773 in 2006 and 6358 in 2007. Heck 10 years ago there were only 350 in 1998 when Scotty Nguyen won it baby. The HORSE event is something I don't think I'd ever be good enough to play in. I don't even play all of the games often enough to even think of playing in a HORSE tourney. |

Anyone up for making a fantasy team and point system for this yrs wsop? Each player draft say 7 players and we a point system for placing this yr?

I am in agreement Karma. The 50K HORSE event is the real event to win. The Main Event is little more than a $10,000 lottery ticket. The main event is not about "who is the best" anymore. In my honest opinion I think the 50K HORSE event should be the main event. It is the World Series of Poker, not the World Series of Hold em, the championship event should find the best poker player, not the luckiest guy that year with 10k to blow. |

Speaking of unknowns winning the WSOP ME, what the hell is Jerry Yang doing these days? I don't think I've heard anything about that guy since he won the 2007 title. I'd have to say the last two champions have been pretty disappointing. Jamie Gold strikes me as an ass and yang was just weird with all the "Jesus send me a ten" prayers. Great idea about the fantasy teams picks, BTW. |

We could do a scoring system. Something like this. 5 Points-Cashing in an event 10 Points-Placing 10th-20th 20 Points-9th Place 22 Points-8th Place 24 Points-7th Place 26 Points-6th Place 28 Points-5th Place 30 Points-4th Place 35 Points-3rd Place 40 Points-2nd Place 50 Points-Bringing Home the Bracelet Who ever would like to get in on this Personal message me. I would like to get 7-10 people in on this. Drafting 8 players sounds fair. So first 10 to personal message me will be in, if I do not get 10 people then we will do it as long as get 7 people.
