Searching Poker Tells

Jeebus asked a question about having a Poker Face in another post which is closely related to to Poker Tells, so I thought we would get a thread going about some of the most common Poker Tells.

One of the most common Tells in Poker is Acting Weak, When you are Strong, and acting Strong when you are weak. I see this all the time from fairly new players and recreational players. For example the flush card gets their on the river and they shake their head in disgust or gasp. Usually this is a tell that they made their hand. I can't tell you how much money this poker tell alone has saved me over the years.

Please feel free to add other common Poker Tells and I will update them into one master list below.

List of Common Poker Tells:
  • Acting Weak when you are strong - (GoodKarmaKid)
  • Acting Strong when you are weak - (GoodKarmaKid)
  • Watching the Players Eyes and their reaction to the flop, If they look at their chips, they normally like their hand, If they continue to look at the flop or look around, they usually missed. - (Kickboy)
  • Repetitive Betting Patterns - (PokerBroker)
  • Players Facial Expressions. If they smile or laugh in a fake manner you should suspect they are lying - (Spidy2222)

Some players try and do the opposite of the weak/strong to offset the knowledge that most go by.

I also still see poker pros acting weak when they have a strong hand and acting strong when they have a weak hand. Some can get away with it.

I was wondering if someone would bring that up, it's commonly reffered to as a "reverse tell", but let's leave that conversation for a different topic and just list common poker tells for now.

Thanks,
Jason

My favorite tell is .....when a flop hits the board watch a players eyes. If their eyes look directly down at their chips in a quick glance it means they like the flop. If they stare at the board completly they missed.

I like this tell because even good players dont realize they are giving this tell away

Repetitive betting patterns are something I look for. Some players tend to always check the nuts and always overbet weak hands.

ok, add in this:

- look at the players face: if he smile or laugh fakely~ you better be suspecting he's lying. :D

- look at their hands: if they are nervous, shaky, keep holding or playing something - they might be having bad cards

I'm not sure about this one, in my experience players with shaky hands or extreme nervousness generally have a big hand, obviously there are exceptions to this.

What do others think about shaky hands or extreme nervousness?

hmm i get your point, they might try to lure you for big cash sometime. but i think sometimes it depends on people and location, different people and location have different symptoms.
