Default Poker and Kids

So, this might be a sensitive subject for some, but what age would you say is a "proper" time to play real poker?

I don't see any problems for kids to play poker at home with their friends for small money, nickels and dimes, where nobody can get hurt or lose anything significant. I use to play a game called 31 with my grandma for nickels and dimes and if I won, I got to keep the money.

I used to play poker with my cousins when we were pretty young (like 8 or 9), we actually played for free (bragging rights), because when your a kid, poker is still fun to play for free

As far as online poker for real money. I think kids should really be at least 18. It helps if they have a job, and have an uderstanding of what money is, and the fact it doesn't grow on trees (or their parents wallets).

I plan on teaching my kids the game at a young age...who knows...maybe one of them will be the next Ivey or Harmon...then I can learn from them too...lol

18 for real money poker online ( using their own extra spending money, a concept which I have already begun teaching).

Online I agree with 18 years old for sure. My husband has taught my eight year old to play and they have played for pennies but just between themselves.

If we are just talking about playing for fun or for nickels and dimes at home then any age is fine, but when larger stakes are brought in 18 and older. There's also the legal issue as you have to be 18 or older to gamble in most places.

Well at the age of 10 you could start playing, but not for cash. Maybe when you can start your own job/ salary - about 18, then you start playing with cash. :D

If kids are playing for nickel and dimes I don't see a problem. If they want to start playing online it would have to be 18yrs and older.

I agree with the majority...18 and older for actual real money...either in groups with friends or online. But if it's just at home, for fun with family and friends...and only for pennies or quarters...then any age is ok. I mean I don't expect a 3 year old to get the concept but you know what I mean.

Id say when they a smart enuff to know what money is,it could be a great learning experience.Poker teaches patience, dealing with loss and disappointment.Poker has many good things to teach. It also has pitfalls like gambling addiction too.

I don't have a problem with young kids getting into poker, kids will have fun playing poker simply with just chips and seeing how can get the most chips at the end.

I just don't want to see kids somehow getting their parents credit card and start playing online poker.
