| I played at Full Tilt poker for quite some time, I still do when I get a chance but not as much. I still receive e-mails from them, they like to sent the tips from the famous players that play there. I usually just skim through them and think it's all the same tips I already know. But this one by Phil Ivey I liked a lot, and thought I should share it with you guys. This is the link: Online Poker at Full Tilt Poker - How To Play - Pro Tips Archive To summarize the article, Phil Ivey strongly believes in learning the game by playing the game. He says that calculating the odds and relying too much on other peoples advice can actually hurt you. And that you have to take chances and rely on your instincts. I like what he is saying, and from my experience playing poker it really makes sense. |

| It makes a lot of sense. You can read all the books and learn tips all you want but you need to play many hands to develop your poker game. The more you practice anything, the better you'll get. Some players have really good instincts from years of playing poker. Gus Hansen is one player that has some instincts to know when to play some of the hands he does. |

| I agree with him 100% Phil Ivey is the man. I have actually been saying similar things for some time. In Denver there are a ton of free poker leauges out there. Bar leauges where you play for free and can win prizes. Some are actually pretty good like trips to the WSOP or WPT. The cool part (and the bad part) about these prizes is that you don't ever put any money in the middle. I have friends who play in these leauges and I always tell them that if they want to learn to play poker they need to put some money in the middle, then they will learn real quick. Kinda similar to Ivey's stance. Obviously you are never going to learn unless you try but playing for play money is really only teaching you the rules, the strategy isn't going to matter unless there is money on the line. |

| | I agee 90% . New players and beginners should get the basic knowledge and foundation of poker before starting to experiment.A good anology would be building a house. It probably wouldn't be wise to start experimenting in the building process if you've never built a house before. But if you've built 4 or 5 or more, you can probably get creative and tweak a few features here and there Jason
