![]() | Hey All, A little confused by something I that came up on a Poker X Factor video... wanted to run this by some of the fixed limit poker experts here to see what you think. The game was Omaha 8-or better and the trainer has A-10-Q-Q (3-diamonds) on the button. A limper from MP3 and the C/O raises - trainer now decides to isolate by raising again... This seemed a strange move to me on O8 - sure you knock out the blinds this way and get position, but can it really be +EV to isolate with a hand without low potential (and actually vulnerable for the high - for example pairing the ace would often see aces-up (with a low card) from an opponent).... My usual play is to limp behind with a high only and 'run awayyyy' fast on a low flop... with the raise ahead I'd have folded. To be honest the trainer is not an O8 expert - though his NLHE and tournament training vids are usually excellent. So... is there a case for 3-betting the high here pre flop??? Cheers, Mark |

![]() | I'm not much of an Omaha High Low Player, but this doesn't seem like much of a positve expectation play to me. I think this might be a case of a good Hold Em player getting a little excited about a big pair with overcards and suited connectors but not totally understanding the value of having a hand that has high and low potential. Having to split the pot with a low hand lowers the value of his hand considerably. Omaha is a great game to exploit players poor play in. Bad Omaha players have almost no shot of winning. I'm with Mark on this one, but would be interested in getting some Omaha Players opinions also. Jason

| I don't like it. I limp and hope for a good high flop. I may bet out if the flop is high even if I miss as I most likeley have picked up outs but before the flop I am never re-raising this. |

![]() | Nice one Kickboy! Had a reply on this in my blog from a player whose o8 opinion I respect... thought this summed things up really well: Without any knowledge of the players, I hate it in a limit game, dislike it in a pot-limit game and would probably do it in the mid-to-late stages of a SNG... Cheers, Mark |

| What I hate in Omaha hi/lo is when you are in a hand with 1 other person and it so obvious one has high and other has low and they continue to keep betting just to feed the rake GGGGGRrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!. Sometimes I will fold even if I have the nut high on a low board with not alot in the pot in a no limit H/L game as I will end up losing because of the rake. In the first example I guess they wanted to isolate and hope for a high board and back if if all low cards hit |
