Excellent fold there. A lot of people wouldn't have got away from that and probably would have dumped all their chips.

Turns out to be a good fold. The guy played his hand goofy in my opinion and could have won more chips.

And to be honest I probably would have played your hand different too.

Theres like 875 in the pot and the guy bets 250? seems weird to me.

In a way, this is a good hand to talk about, even though you were beat and made a good laydown on the turn. I think betting around 400 on the flop is probably a better play than check calling.

Check calling doesn't give you any information about what they guy has, he could easily hold a hand like 10-10, J-J, Ak suited(actually Q-Q is statistically the least likely hand he would hold), maybe even a medium pair.

Betting out I think would define your hand more, if you get raised, dump it. A lot of times you stand a decent chance of picking up the pot right there with a lead out bet.

It turns out you made a very good laydown on the turn (helped out by the dodo who goes from betting 250 to 1500 ). If he bets like 600 I think it's much tougher for you to lay it down.


Kind of an interesting hand to think about. Tell us more about your thought process in this hand.

• Did you have any previous reads on this guy?
• Was he playing loose, tight, etc.
• What did you think about the smallish bet on the flop?
• Then the much bigger bet on the turn?

What's everyone else think about how this hand played out?? Am I the only one who leads at the flop?

I would probably have bet about the pot on the flop. However, if reraised I would have had a really hard time folding and probably would have dumped all my chips.

This was level 3 of a 22,000 person tourny. To be honest I assume everyone is a fish in these tournies at the begining.

My playing style I Almost always check to a preflop raiser, If i hit the hand or not. When the flop hit I was actually trying to figure out how to get all my chips in the middle.

But when he bet so little on the flop I was like I am going to give him more rope to hang himself since he missed the flop with the intention of check raising the turn. When the turn bet came out so heavy I felt it was a very inexperianced play on his part.

Yes i would have gave him my stack if he bet around 600 though.

Worked out well for you, he defined his hand for you (instead of the other way around) and you lost the minimum because of his bad play and goofy betting pattern.

Taking advantage of others bad play is one of the biggest keys to being successful in my opinion.

I like this hand a lot from a discussion point of view, you went from the mentality of trying to figure out how to get all you chips in the pot, to folding, meanwhile losing the minimum, all due to the inexperience, and goofy actions, betting patterns of your opponent.

Thank You Karma, In the last few months I have learned to make some big laydowns in big bet situations. With this it has caused me to go deeper in some of these bigger tournaments. (As you can see with some of the results of my posts)
