What is your favorite poker game other then No limit hold'em? Or if hold'em is not your favorite just say your first. I would have to go with razz. If you guys have never played it, then I suggest you try it out. It's basically like seven card stud, but your playing for the low hand. The game really isn't all that popular but it is picking up. I found out about the game playing in a HORSE freeroll like a few years ago.

| | I Like the Variety of H.O.R.S.E. A good all around player has a huge advantage in horse. It's pretty rare to find players that are good at all 5 games. When I really want to play something different, I sometimes play 2-7 triple draw low-ball. The game has picked up in popularity and is often one of the regular games in "mixed games" that are spread around the tournament circuit and in Vegas.

Yeah Karma I play a ton of Triple Draw (2-7, used to play a little a-5 but I prefer 2-7). I should actually post some articles I have written on the game here sometime. I too like Razz and also have written some on the game I should post here. I pretty much like all games better than hold em right now. I play more HORSE and Triple Draw than anything else.

Would anyone care to post a link to a good HORSE strategy guide? I've been trying to branch out from NLHE and i've played a few HORSE SNGs, ITM only once, usually getting hurt by making avoidable bad plays. One thing I've noticed is that players go absolutely crazy in the Omaha 8 round, raising and calling with crazy speculative hands. I have started playing <5% of omaha hands due to there being six players in every pot. Unless i've got a nut low draw with a high pair and suited I throw it away. I'm really looking to improve my HORSE skills, as at the lower buyins this seems to be more of a thinking man's game than NHLE.

I kind of miss playing good old fashioned draw poker. That is the first type of poker I learned when I was younger. I am going to start practising in the H.O.R.S.E. games though because that seems like something that would be fun since you have a variety of games you need to play.

I have heard this before so let me give you my answer when you say you want a HORSE strategy guide: There isn't one. HORSE is not one game, it is 5 seperate games each with thier own different rules, winning hands, antes, blinds... Everything is different about each game. There is no HORSE strategy guide. There is no smooth transition directly from NL Hold Em to HORSE. Limit Hold em, Omaha Hi/Lo, Razz, Stud, and Stud Hi/Lo are all completely different games, each with its own completely different set of nuances and strategies. The only way to learn HORSE is to spend time on each game individually. If you go straight from NL Hold em to HORSE you are going to have incredibly large leaks in the other games being played as each game is different. I did notice in your post you said "the Omaha game had 6 to the flop" and that caused you to tighten up. No offence but this shows you need to spend a lot of time learning Omaha as 6 to a flop is practically a dream game for O8. Basically you are not going to win @ HORSE for any extended amount of time if you are not taking the time to learn each game individualy. I just can't stress this enough. HORSE is simply a cool acronym for many games, but you are not going to excel at HORSE unless you can break each game down and play each and every game right. It takes a long time to learn them all but until you get there I suggest concentrating on one game, get it down, and if you want to learn another. Eventually you will get there.

Yeah, what I meant was that the whole table seemed to be betting and raising pre and post flop and things were getting expensive quick. What you are saying makes good sense. I picked up Super System 2, so I guess that's the best place to start learning strategy for all the games. Thanks for the post.
