Does your family get upset when you play poker? If so, what do you do when they complain? What do you tell them? How do you resolve the issue? ![]()

My family is super supportive. It is great. There was a time when they didn't understand why I couldn't just stop playing and do something else (tournament play) but they have all learned that when I am playing that I am totally involved in what I am doing and they are generally very supportive. I actually have Sundays reserved for playing. Actually as we speak the Heartland Poker Tour is in town and I have taken 3 weeks off of work to play it and have the full support of my girlfriend as she knows I am going to make better money in the next few weeks than I could make at work.

I dont play often enough for them to get upset to be honest, if it was taking me away from the family then i guess they would have reason. But we are all entitled to some 'me time'

That's great you spend time with your family and don't put "poker" first. I have heard of some people putting their jobs first before their family and their families fall apart. It's great to have a supportive family that understands you and loves you.

I'm long removed from staying with my family (and yet to find my own). So finding time for me to play is not that hard. However when I visit my parents I only play at cash tables, because it is impossible to play a tournament with my parents around :p

![]() | My Dad totally understands the "poker pro" thing and he understands that poker isn't about luck. He played quite a bit of poker when he was younger. My Mom on the other hand is another story. I don't think she really got it for about 4 years. I always got the impression she thought I was in the casino gambling, picking "red" or "black", and I was either lucky or unlucky. After about 4 years, never having to borrow money from her, buying a nice house, and basically living a pretty plush lifestyle with nice vacations, I think it finally sunk into her head that I knew what I was doing ![]() I played, poker for a living before I got married and my wife is very supportive. She knows where the dough for the bread comes from, and she understands that sometimes I will be gone for 4 hours and sometimes I might be gone for 24 hours or longer. Jason

No problems here because I don't play for 8 hours a day every day. I love playing poker, but it doesn't come before everything else. I will only play when I have alone time and all of my other priorities are taken care of.
