| We were playing a small 20$ no limit hold em tournament. all started with 7500 in chips and there were 6 of us left. I was sitting with about 15000 in chips with 3 5 of spades. After an opponent raised pre flop i called and it was only him and i in the hand. The flop was Aclubs 10clubs and 4hearts. My opponent went all in with 1800 and there was already 3000 in the pot from blinds. I called, not wanting him to buy it and also trying to eliminate a player. I lost the hand but was this a smart call or not?? half the table said yes the other half no. |

That's a good call. You have a good hand that is going for a straight so far. But you said you've lose. You made a good decision at least of calling and not reraising. ![]()

| | Your biggest mistake is preflop. You did not specify the blinds or the size of his opening bet (and your call), but you should have thought ahead before calling w/ such a crappy hand. You failed to recognize that his open commits him to getting AI as the flop is going to be twice as large as his remaining stack. He is shipping any flop and you're hoping to flop a miracle w/ your 35s. Your only move preflop should be to ship or fold (unless perhaps u want to get tricky w/ AA). 35 has no showdown value and you have no fold equity. Easy fold. |

Horrible call. Going for the straight? You're chasing 4 outs (the 2s), 8% to hit. You surely aren't going to win w/ high card 5 and you have no FD. Even if you think the villain is buying it, he's buying it w/ a better hand than 5 high.

| Some of the guys said if you can ever have a chance to get 3 to 1 on your money you should call with any two cards, although this wasnt my theory. I couldn't figure out how this would work all the time but if anyone has more details on it I would appreciate it. |

| | Huskyblue is spot on. Bad call preflop, and bad call on the flop. As he mentioned its also important to include blind sizes. You can only win if you catch a miracle. Jason

Theory wise, you are right. But if I'm the one on that situation, i would do the same decision. Anyway, it's gambling and you need to have a strong luck and determination to do it. ![]()
