I was playing a $22 SNG 9 player on stars and there was this one player to my direct right limping every single hand and getting lucky on you name it, flops, turns and rivers..resulting in the elimination of 3 players in the first 10-20mins. He was long stacked (5000 chips) to my shortstack (500), i made some bad decisions. I'm looking for advice on how you would play against this sort of player in the future. Bluffing did not work as he called every single one of my raises/bets. Is my only option to sit tight and wait till i get a monster hand and push? Because that's all i felt that i could do, i felt cornered cause he limped every hand both strong and weak. Cheers. ------ However, In the end i somehow managed to work my way into heads up, being saved by lucky hands and skill of course. In heads up i was lucky i hit my Ace on the river to his pair of kings or i would have been knocked out. But after that he turned out to be an extremely weak heads up player and i took him out and won 1st place.

Was he calling raises as well preflop or was he just allowed to limp into every pot? If he can get away with limping in most hands and he is chip leader i don't blame him for doing it. Does he raise at all when he has good hands or bad post flop? If he is just a passive call station you really just want to play solid tight/aggressive poker against him. Don't allow him to limp into pots and get free cards, you want to punish him for it. If he is calling all you raises that is a good thing, bet when you have cards, don't bet when you don't (you can always check it down when your unsure). Luck happens, you can't avoid it but in the long run you should be able to beat this type of player.

I am always happy when a player is limping, cos it means he is not betting into me. you have position, so you can see a lot of pots with him or isolate him as long as you are deep enough, then be prepared to stack off with any TP good kicker type hands if his range is that wide. if you cant outplay him post flop then just shove any hand that plays well against his range, up to 20 bb (assuming you dont have any players behind that are likely to call - eg stick to blinds), you dont have to be very tight at all, just a head of his calling a shove range.
