Default Re: What mistake do average poker players make the most?

Playing too many hands and being in a rush to win. When they get down a little early in a session they tend to try to "get it all back" and make crying calls.

Ignore a flush board, ignore connected board, hope their top pair weak kicker is good enough.

At least those are my flaws.

The big mistake with Ace-Ace that i see is that they get so overplayed or overbet. My raise is 3x the blind every time i come into a hand. This includes ace, kings, or my occasional 56 suited, this is in order to keep people off guard. Most beginers will raie 3x the blind normally but when they get aces it goes to 5x the blinds of the infamous jacks preflop raise of 8x the blind. So if they get outflopped players cant keep the pot small and call it down instead of pushing all in.

I think losing with AA and AK is more game specific. If you want to know the biggest mistake a "hold em player" might make this would be up there but like Karma said, game selection and playing too many hands is a problem you can face in all games. You have to remember there are those of us that aren't playing a ton of hold em.

With you 100% here... Pot Limit Omaha is the game to find someone who overplays aces... the structure lets the worst players tell you their hand pre-flop for only 2 or 3% of stacks, can actually be funny to see 2 or 3 observant players insta-call an 'I have aces' raise from a weaky with their rags... knowing that their implied odds are big enough to make it profitable

Ah, must make more time to play the beautiful game!

Cheers, Mark

I dont know about you guys but one of my leaks is the ....."gotta call to see if im right"...... you know your beat or you have a feeling you are....but you flick the chips in just to make sure this is an ounce of hope you were wrong or just to see if you were right.

HUGE LEAK of mine, some days are better than others, but it costs lots to see!

Once again game (or more specifically odds) dependent. If you are playing NL and some guy pots it on the river and you are calling to "see what he's got" then this is a leak. If you are playing limit poker and are priced in for one more bet this is correct to do a very large portion of the time.

Yeah not being able to lay a hand down when you know you are beat is definetly a large large leak. At least you know what you are doing but unless you change something and start to make these laydowns your bankroll will continue to suffer!

the good thing is is i know im doing it, so it doesnt happen all the time....but then i think some of it has to do with ego, which is also TERRIBLE leak. but i still catch myself doing these things here and there :( ...bad reads too hah!

Even Daniel Negreanu has this problem I notice. He can make some absolutely incredible, amazing, sick reads, guessing the exact cards the other player is holding and yet still call because he just has to see for sure.
