Default Re: Poker Nights

I actually hosted my first poker game at my new house last Friday and it was great. It is pretty hard though, scouring Denver for 8 people that can play HORSE AND Triple Draw AND that all can meet up on the same night but I did it and it was great. I have actually run tournaments for a long time, this one definetly wasn't the first, just the first at my new house, but the fact that it was a mixed cash game made it hard to find the players.

If anyone needs advice or has a question on hosting a game shoot me a PM. I have a lot of experience hosting private games and am a schooled certified dealer and know all games. Just throwing that out there in case anyone has any questions!

My buddy lives in Denver and was thinking about starting a weekly game also. PM the details, what limits you play, etc.

Let me know if your looking for any extra players, I can pass your info on to my friend. Don't worry, he isn't a pro, but does play ok. He owns a big window company in Denver.

Karma you recomend any places to stay for the series. I have been pricing away but every where has seemed to up the prices. I do not want to stay too close to the action but do not want to be an hour away either. I also do no not want to give up my first born to pay for this.

Extended Stay of America on Valley View is 5 minutes walk from the RIO

Also, the Gold Coast Casino is right across the straight.

Both of these places will be on the low side.

How long are you going to be in Vegas for? If you come for a longer period, you might be able to find a condo to rent on Craigs List.

If your going to have a car while here you could also check out Budget Suites of America with convenient locations on Tropicana (across from the Orleans), and a location on Industrial behind the Old Stardust (near the Wynn, Venetian, & Mirage).

I don't want to discourage you from playing the "Main Event" but I honestly believe most players would be much better off taking that same money (10k) and entering 3 or 4 smaller tournaments. In fact, I already wrote about it here:

Are you going to the 2008 WSOP?

You will pick up an incredbile amount of experience by playing these smaller big buy in WSOP events and realistically give yourself a better chance of winning an event or cashing.

Also you could take 4 or 5 shots at super satellites in the evening, or try to parlay a couple of one table satellites.

It probably sounds harsh, but if you can't win a seat in 3 or 4 super satellite attempts or win some smaller one table satellites you probably don't have the skillset to win a big tournament.

I actually wrote a pretty good article about it on my blog about three years ago:

The blog doesn't look so hot, I got screwed over by a web designer and I'm in the process of trying to get it updated.

I agree with your advice completely. Actually I had the 10K last year and instead of dumping it all in the ME luck-fest I spread it out, played 2 events, some decent sized cash games, ate like a king, and had a GREAT time. I would never, ever, suggest anyone dump the 10K when they can play many prelim events and get way more for your money as far as actual experience and play is concerned.
