I totally agree that playing for money is so different then playing with play money. I know my hubby got a big head because he was always winning on the free sites with play money. It seems like there is a different caliber of players when you are playing for real money.

This brought a smile to me. Yes, you're right... I think that a lot of cockiness leaves people when they start playing for real money and... well, they're usually surprised that opponents when it's real money suddenly start playing more seriously which means more losses.

Poker is one of those games that really needs to be played for real money, otherwise there is no real incentive for people to play correctly.

Even if you are playing 5 cents 10 cents poker, it is much more realistic than playing for free.

Just my two cents,

Jason
<-- in total agreement.

I was going to say that the best way to learn is to put some money up. Basically you will never learn if you are not willing to put some money in the middle.

Yes, and from what I can see, that's the way it is with a lot of things in life... if there really isn't much of a risk involved, we don't give things our best effort.

Putting up money for something is a risk that most of us will sit up and pay attention to.

Playing it for real gets you the right mood towards poker. The first time I played poker, I played a $50 buy in but before I sit on the table I memorized first the hierarchy of cards.
