| Probably about 6 months ago I would snap this. I think on PokerStars especially there was this trend towards open shoving speculative hands on the first hand of a tournament. However, now, I think this is a pretty standard fold. People have moved towards using this in an attempt to represent a maniac (not very well imo) when in fact they have a high PP. The hand still brings up interesting questions of what your calling range is going to be here. Additionally, do you quickly look up something like PokerDB and use this for a factor in your decision? Its the $27MTT, if that has any impact on your range. First hand of the $27MTT. | Yea, that move is still pretty popular unfortunately. I call w/ only KK or AA, simple as that. Sure he could be making a play w/ absolutely nothing, but his money is already in and I don't like subjecting myself to some horrible beat when he flops 2 pair with shit. He's clearly a joker pushing here and like i've said before in previous threads...if someone is willing to play this poorly this early, he'll make some big mistake again down the road and thats when u bust him. Aces and Kings...even queens go into the muck.

![]() | I don't know, maybe it's because I play higher limits and $27 doesn't mean much to me, but I can't click call fast enough in this spot. Virtually no decent player with kings, aces or even queens is going to make this ridiculous kind of play, it's almost always some joker, having fun trying to bully you. I do understand the argument for folding, but I think your going to have the best hand the vast majority of the time. All you can do as a poker player is put the money in good, if your up against two over cards, you are still a favorite. If a guy offered to flip you coins, heads/tails all day long and he would pay you $55 dollars when you won, and you only had to pay him $45 when you lose, I don't think there is any rationale person that wouldn't take the deal. These types of situations are basically the same thing, you will lose occasionally, but you will win much more often, not to mention doubling up on the first hand puts you in a very advantageous position to exercise some muscle on future hands. By the way, he doesn't have to have two overcards either, in which case you are a much bigger favorite, jokers like to make this play with any ace, king ten, etc Seems like nothing but upside to me.
