From most of what I've read, it is better to play your trips agressively, rather than let someone draw out on you when you try to play trappy. I'd of bet 3/4 - full pot after the flop and see if he folds to me. If he calls and the board throws a scare card on the turn as it did in this case, I just check/call it down if possible. As you played it, I'd think he has A4 in the pocket.
