The simple version

If a player plays similiar to me, loose and aggressive, I actually prefer to be to their right so I can raise with a lot of suited aces, Kq, medium pairs and even hands like jten suited, etc.

If I'm behind them (on their left), I most often have to muck hands like these.

If a player is tight/predictable I prefer to be to their left, so I can control the action and avoid donating chips when they have something.

Kind of an oversimplification, but that's my general game plan.
